Four teams remain in the hunt for the OAC Tournament Championship as the top seeds all held serve at home last night. I recapped all the action from Tuesday night as well as conference tournament action around the Great Lakes. The last public Great Lakes Regional Rankings also came out today and I dug into those as well breaking down each team and their Pool C chances should they lose this week. Marietta College junior Eddy Grenert joined me (17:55) and we discussed how he came to Marietta, striking a academic-athletics balance, as well as how the Pioneers will approach their match up tomorrow night with Baldwin Wallace. All of this plus predictions for tomorrow night's semifinals as the "Road to Salem" continues on "This Week in the Ohio Athletic Conference."
The regular season is over the and the Marietta Pioneers have claimed the regular season championship. Tournament time is here and the dream of a conference and national championship is still alive for 8 of the conference teams. I preview the conference tournament's opening round games as well as recap the conference winners of the other Great Lakes Region conferences.
One week remains in the regular season and the standings have been turned upside down. Marietta's two losses this week have opened the door wide open again in the conference and any one of three teams could claim at least a share of the title in the final week. At the bottom of the standings, it looks like we have the 8 teams that will play in the OAC Tournament but the order of seeds is still yet to be determined. I sat down with John Carroll head coach Mike Moran (13:00) to discuss his Blue Streaks and his long tenured career in University Heights. The show wraps up with Great Lakes conference standings, my thoughts on how the regional rankings shake out this week, and OAC predictions for the final week of the season. All of this and more in this week's edition of "This Week in the Ohio Athletic Conference."
Two weeks remain in the regular season and the top 4 teams have separated themselves from the rest of the pack. The middle of the pack on back, however, is still a mess as teams continue to jockey for tournament positioning. Would the Marietta train continue on rolling to 21-0? Could Mount keep pace and set up a massive clash Wednesday night in Alliance? Which of the other top teams would get a serious scare from an unlikely source Saturday? I also sit down with the head coach of the #3 Marietta Pioneers Jon VanderWal (19:35) to talk about his journey to Southeast Ohio and discuss what makes his Pioneers so tough to stop this year. I wrap it up with some Great Lakes talk and conference predictions for the decisive week ahead. All of this and more in this edition of "This Week in the Ohio Athletic Conference".
Happy Super Bowl Sunday! With 6 games left in the regular season, conference tournament positioning continues to heat up. Which of the top three teams would stumble this week? Could any of the teams at the bottom of the standings put together some wins to put themselves into position to make the OAC Tournament. I also sat down with Baldwin Wallace head coach Duane Sheldon (18:25) to discuss his Yellow Jackets and the great season they have put together so far. I also take a look at the shook up Great Lakes Region as a couple of top teams took some surprising losses this week. All of this and more in this week's edition of "This Week in the Ohio Athletic Conference."
